Mission
Camp Trach Me Away seeks to empower children and young adults with tracheostomies and their families by providing resources, promoting advocacy, and advancing community awareness in order to foster independence and life-long wellness.
About Us
Medical and nursing professionals support Camp Trach Me Away campers on all fronts. Three camp counselors/nurses are assigned to each camper to ensure their safety and wellbeing. There are physicians and respiratory therapists at camp at all times to provide support as needed. Each campers is monitored overnight by Camp Trach me Away medical team.
Leadership
Cristy Carey BSN, RN
Cristy is the executive director and co-founder of Camp Trach Me Away. She has over 20 years of experience as a registered nurse with extensive experience in home care working with special needs children and adults. Cristy has spent her career in clinical and operational roles with a focus on ensuring individuals can be cared for safely in their own homes. She spends much of her time advocating for those who can’t advocate for themselves.
Jon Popler MD
Dr. Popler a co-founder of Camp Trach Me Away and our medical director. He is board-certified in both pediatrics and pediatric pulmonology. Dr. Popler is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society and works as a pediatric pulmonologist at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
